Sorting bottles at Roskilde Festival paves the way for “the best time of the year”

Wasim and Daweed help Roskilde Festival recycle tonnes of cans and bottles at the festival. They do it because of a great working environment and to get out of the asylum center for a while

Wasim is an asylum seeker from Pakistan and lives in Dianalund asylum center. He volunteers in one of the festival’s Refund Stations. This is his third time at the festival. “I start working at 9.30AM in the morning and my shift ends at 7pm. That goes on for three days. I am here together with a group of around ten friends from the asylum center and we work together with Danish volunteers. It is a very good environment. And when I am done working I go to concerts and dance and enjoy my life with my friends. Roskilde Festival is the best time of the year. Most of the time we normally just sit in the camp”

Daweed is also asylum seeker from Pakistan. And it is his third year volunteering at the festival too. “I come to see the big celebrities. Last year I watched concerts with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Kendrick Lamar. This year I look forward to see Ice Cube and Nas. There is a positive vibe here. Many people are drunk, but they are not trying to get into fights.”
