Hanstholm: Plans to tackle dental problems get underway

There is a widespread problem of dental cases in Hanstholm asylum center. The problem is due to the poor hygiene by the residents, bad habit of biting their nails to deal with nervousness.

The problem is so serious that three ladies have taken it upon themselves to sensitize the residents about having healthy formula. Helle, Linda and Anne Christine [of the staff, Ed.] plan to introduce a programme to teach residents about the advantages of keeping healthy teeth. Any case that requires critical attention is referred to Thisted Hospital:

"We provide immediate aid to our residents. If we check someone and see that we can’t handle it, we always refer them to Thisted hospital. With teeth issues, we refer them to a dental clinic at Hanstholm,” said Christine.

Many people who have nightmares during their sleep tend to bite their teeth in anxiety, which has also affected the dental formula. As a way of dealing with that, they ask for pills to help them sleep comfortably. However, Anne Christine, a nurse at Hanstholm Asylcenter, says that some people are taking the drugs without any caution. She said that they plan to educate the residents about the proper way of taking the tablets.

The Thisted hospital and the nurses at Hanstholm Asylcenter maintains a high level of professionalism. They have a high level of confidentiality in regard to patients’ records. Nevertheless, the nurses face challenges in treating the patients due to the different speaking nationalities at the asylum center. However, nurses have met this challenge with a lot of patience and understanding their patients better.

I am wondering if the cost of toothbrushes and toothpaste is prohibitive for many asylum seekers, especially those who only get a very small allowance, or none.
