As part of «  Velkomstfesten 2016 », the organization, Crossing Borders (CB), had organized a short workshop “Voices of journalists across borders”  of 45 minutes in order to give exiled journalists space to talk from their own experience of the obstacles to integration in the Danish society.

The workshop that took part from 13h30 to 14h45 started by a short introduction by Garba Diallo Director of CB. Gadro, from Syria, was the first to talk about his journey to Denmark highlighting the risks he had.

“After reaching Denmark, the land of freedom, what is the next step?” asked Khaled from Syria. The integration is not just about knowing the language, it is about “mutual respect”, he added.

The second part of the workshop was a teamwork activity in order to involve all the attendees on the question. Each group had to brainstorm on the keys to integration and come up with 3 solutions. They found the following keys to integration: Quick asylum process, learning the language with “praktik” and flexible rules, to give asylum seekers a chance to work while they’re still in asylum centers.

The workshop ended in a great atmosphere and networking between the participants.
