The most frustrating thing of this film is that Sean McAllister himself was arrested during the shooting of the film. Even it is was just for one week it was enough. Hearing the screaming whole night long and watching guards beating prisoners to death, Sean McAllister sensed what torture and mental torture is. What is war and how the war affects normal people and their lives. What creates the rush of the refugees to European countries.
“It’s the war that caused all these sorrows and refugee troubles.” said Sean McAllister to New Times after the premiere debate.
“What we see on the news quite a lot is that the images and reportages repeat several scenarios involving refugees and people. I think the documentaries can contribute to the news. The next time you watch the news, the point that comes for sure, is that you might think for it. You might think of people, just laugh and cry, like you and me. For the news has no time to show. And that’s how documentaries can be of help.” said Sean.
A Syrian Love Story is a poignant love story of a Syrian political writer Raghda and her husband Amer. The most touching part of the film is that after a long waiting time in the Yarmouk Camp in Damascus , Raghda released from prison again, a deep sorrow of the prisoning that can not tell and the differences views of life and politics almost tear apart the love between the couple and the children.
Raghda and Amer first met and fell in love with each other when they were in prison. They get married and set up a family after they got released. Amer takes care of the children when Raghda was again arrested and being put into prison. Two children, one is four years old and the other is 14 years old, have spent their youth time watching their mum and dad devoting themselves to their political belief.
“I was involved “ said Sean McAllister at the premiere debate, “ I was really deeply involved”.
